The Sweetest Day of the Year
If there was ever someone to develop the perfect Valentine’s Day recipe, it’s Alice Tanghe. She has a lot of backup. Built-in shelves in her office hold over 500 recipe books, grouped according to region, type of food, type of cooking vessel, Junior League cookbooks, meat, vegetarian, breakfast/brunch, entertaining, drinks, etc. She buys them as she travels, according to her particular interest at the time.
Tanghe likes to eat at restaurants and then try to recreate the meal at home. Browsing through her many cookbooks provides great ideas. She highlights a Pinot Noir cherry sauce from Jim Kyndberg in the Minnesota Homegrown Cookbook as being particularly delicious.
Don’t miss the February issue of Maple Grove Magazine (or visit maplegrovemag.com starting February 1) for two of Tanghe’s fabulous recipes that will delight your sweetheart on February’s ‘special’ day (and any day after).
Until then, here are some of Tanghe’s cooking tips to hold you over:
- Almost any food is better with butter or cream.
- If you start with good quality, simple, real food (not packaged), you’ll end up with an extraordinary meal.
- Buy local; it makes sense.
- A well-stocked pantry beats a close grocery store.
- Mealtime is the best time to catch up with your family.
