Three seniors from Maple Grove area high schools have been named finalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Malavika Suresh and Emily Leonard of Maple Grove Senior High and Emma Folke of Osseo Senior High are among a select group of 16,000 students nationwide (chosen from more than 1.5 million students) competing for one of 8,000 scholarships from the National Merit Scholar program, which provides $35 million in scholarships. The scholarship candidates, who are among the top 1 percent of all seniors across the country, are judged on academics and extracurricular activities.

Leonard, a member of the orchestra and varsity lacrosse, will be attending North Dakota State University to study mechanical engineering and music. Folke, who participates in marching band, orchestra and National Honor Society, plans on studying actuarial science at Drake University in Iowa.
