Organics Recycling

The City of Maple Grove is making food waste disposal more accessible.

Maple Grove residents will be able to recycle organic materials directly from their homes alongside trash and regular recycling beginning January 6, 2025. The mandatory fee from garbage haulers will be dropped and residents will be able to pay to recycle organics with the rest of their utilities.

A press release from the City of Maple Grove states “organics recycling is an opportunity to reduce trash that ends up in a landfill.” This trash might include regular food items like bones, food scraps or meat, and food-soiled paper like napkins or pizza boxes. Other household items like coffee filters, wooden items or even cotton balls and houseplants can also be recycled through the program. A full list of acceptable items can be found on the City of Maple Grove website, along with a list of restricted items.

Those interested in registering for organics collection can sign up through the City of Maple Grove website. Registering by December 13 will ensure you receive your cart by the January 6 start date. Those previously registered for organics collecting through their garbage hauler are automatically enrolled.

Organics collecting will happen the same day of the week as the recycling and will occur weekly. The City of Maple Grove asks residents to notify Republic Services if the organics are not collected by 7 p.m. on the scheduled day once service begins.
