Glowing moon wins first place in City Landmarks category.
With very limited opportunities to capture the full moon, photographer Rod Smoliak says it is important to plan your desired location down to the right minute or even second to get the perfect shot.
“Looks can be deceiving. It might be hard to imagine, but the water tower is about one mile away from where the picture is being taken,” he says about his winning image. “The purpose of this is to have the object next to the moon appear as small as possible in order to make the moon stand out as much as possible.”
