It’s the perfect time to give back to the community alongside your children and remind them of what matters most.

It’s easy, especially for kids, to get wrapped up in consumer culture this time of year. It’s the perfect time to give back to the community alongside your children and remind them of what matters most.

Remember the animals. Animal shelters are able to stay open due to donations. Consider visiting their websites to review their needs and purchase a few items. Most shelters have an Amazon wish list, which means you can ship items directly to the shelter.

Give the gift of reading. Go through your child’s books and declutter the ones that are no longer being read. Divvy those up books among Little Free Libraries.

Care for community helpers. Leave treats and drinks out on your doorstep for delivery drivers. Bring bagels and coffee to the office staff at your child’s school. Drop a holiday card and a set of hand warmers in your mailbox for your mail carrier.

Honor the elderly. Call a senior center or nursing home to learn about its policy for dropping off cards or floral arrangements to brighten the day of those who may need it most.
