Take a backstage look at the career of a dancer with local roots.
So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) season 14 gave Maple Grove native Taylor Sieve more than a national stage, it opened the door to international opportunities. Maple Grove Magazine last profiled the dancer in January 2018, with the interview going to print the month she started touring with SYTYCD choreographer Travis Wall’s After the Curtain tour, which followed fast on the heels of completing a coast-to-coast live tour with her fellow Top 10 SYTYCD performers from October to November. We caught up with Sieve to learn where her dance career has taken her since.
Sieve’s momentum only continued to build in 2019 when she embarked on the Simulation Theory World Tour with Muse. “They had never had dancers before,” Sieve says, which made the collaboration all the more special. She spent a whirlwind of a year on the stadium tour, performing in front of hundreds of thousands of audience members. “We had some huge, huge performances, which was eye-opening for sure,” Sieve says, noting that Rock in Rio in Rio de Janeiro had an audience of almost 100,000 alone.
Subsequent years saw Sieve on stage with Billie Eilish at Coachella 2022 and in an ad campaign with Zendaya for Swiss athletic brand On in 2024. Alongside a steady stream of performances, she also participated in projects for luxury brands including Hermès and Cadillac.

Sieve reunited with another SYTYCD choreographer, Mandy Moore, in 2025. “Let me say this: Mandy Moore is the GOAT,” Sieve says. “Everybody adores her, and I am always so inspired by her.” The pair go way back, with Sieve recalling taking a dance convention class from Moore when she was around 7 years old. “To continue working with her has been just one of the coolest experiences,” she says. It also certainly didn’t hurt that their reunion was on the set of Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia music video.
The music video, directed by Swift, follows the pop icon as she travels through a series of vignettes depicting showgirls throughout the ages. Sieve appears in a pool sequence inspired by choreographer Busby Berkeley’s aquacade in the 1933 movie Footlight Parade. Already familiar with Berkeley’s work, Sieve says, “When we were told that was one of the inspirations, I immediately was like, ‘Ah, yes, I see. Very cool. Very inspiring.’”
The last sentiment echoes throughout Sieve’s experience with the project. When discussing Swift as a director, Sieve says, “Especially to just see a woman become so successful in multiple areas, I think it is really inspiring. As artists, to be able to be a multihyphenate is the dream, especially for me.”

By the time the music video was released in October 2025, Sieve was already working with another longstanding musical artist—Alanis Morissette—on her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. When Sieve wasn’t performing on stage, she was watching the show from the wings. “It was almost like an integrated experience with theater and some lectures built in as well as [Morissette’s] music,” she says. “It just was such a one-of-a-kind show in my opinion.”
Morissette shared anecdotes about the start of her career in the ’90s, a notoriously difficult time for women in the rock genre. “I think her stance on finding herself and speaking up for herself, I connected with that very deeply,” Sieve says. “As women, it can be hard to trust your gut and stand your ground when you are trying to make art and build a career.”

By this time, the dancer was also well on her way to adding “actress” to her performance repertoire. Over the course of summer 2024, Sieve was on set in Germany for the A24 psychological drama Mother Mary, which hit theaters in April and follows the life of a pop star who must confront her past in order to create her comeback performance.
Sieve’s path to the silver screen started with an unexpected twist. She was at an audition for a different Dani Vitale movie when the choreographer asked her if she was staying for the Mother Mary audition. Sieve told Vitale she hadn’t gotten that call from her agent, “And she was like, ‘Wait, what? No, you’re staying. Can you stay?’” Sieve says. So, the dancer put her best foot forward. Initially, Sieve didn’t hear back. “And then, out of the blue, one day I get a message asking my measurements and whatnot,” Sieve says. She was asked to be Anne Hathaway’s body double. Her answer was immediate: “Yes, I definitely want to be a part of this. That sounds like the coolest thing ever.”

While Vitale and her team were building out the dance sequences of the movie with the backup dancers, Sieve performed Hathaway’s track. Hathaway still did all of her own dance scenes, Sieve is quick to clarify, but Sieve served as her dance stand-in. “I was a big part of the rehearsal process in creating all of that choreography with them,” she says. Once the choreography was blocked out, Hathaway took over and performed as the eponymous pop star.
While on set in Germany, Sieve received a second surprise request: to play the role of the Red Woman. “[It] was unexpected and really, really cool to wear so many hats throughout the process of this movie,” Sieve says. She’s pretty tight-lipped about what the role entails, which is unsurprising for a thriller. The most she would divulge is, “[The role] definitely involves movement. I wouldn’t say dance per se.”
Recently, Taylor Sieve was in Seth MacFarlane’s show Ted as a talking, moving statue. “I had never worked with so many prosthetics in my life,” she says. “To be sat in a makeup chair for hours on end, that was a really cool experience.” Here, she is seen recording her lines.
Sieve says she could relate to the themes of the movie as a performer herself. “I think the idea that you can’t necessarily do this career, this life as an artist alone is something that I grasped from the film and the story and can definitely relate to my own life,” she says. Although being a performer can be isolating, Sieve says building a community you can trust is key to helping you thrive.
So, what’s next for Sieve? “I’m not sure what’s to come,” she says. “It’s kind of a crazy life, what we do.” One of the main things she’s learned is that auditioning serves as the main crux of the job. “All of the projects and the things that I get to release to the world are just little bits and kind of bobs of what it actually is to do this thing.” The one certainty is Sieve is well on her way to becoming a multihyphenate artist in her own right.
