Carson Blumer took a photography assignment from Maple Grove Senior High and turned it into a winner.

Carson Blumer took an assignment for a photography class at Maple Grove Senior High and turned it into the first-place winning photograph for our annual photo contest’s Activities and Events category.

Tasked with photographing something in his daily life, the now junior high school student took the photo, On the Ice, on the pond in his backyard, using a Canon camera. “I play hockey, and this represents the memories I’ve made on the ice,” Blumer says.

Blumer’s favorite spots to take photos include areas around his Maple Grove backyard, at school and, naturally, at hockey rinks, and he gravitates toward nature and sports-related photos.
